In its new report released yesterday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) suggests that President Museveni’s dream of getting Uganda into the middle-income country bracket in the next four years is far from reality.
IMF adds that sub-Saharan Africa, Uganda inclusive, is set to experience a second difficult year as the region grapples with multiple shocks. This is detailed in its 2016 Regional Economic Outlook titled; Sub-Saharan Africa time for a policy reset. 
The IMF says growth in the region as a whole is projected to fall to three per cent in 2016, the lowest level in 15 years, albeit with considerable differences across the region.
“As the severe external shocks persist, average growth for the region in 2016 is expected to reach just three per cent, revised downward by 1¼ percentage points since the October 2015 Regional Economic Outlook, and the lowest rate since 1999,” reads part of the report launc...
